TRAVEL TIPS

Mail

Mail service is slow but reasonably reliable. A postcard sent to anywhere in the Americas or Europe will cost no more than USD50¢, a letter 75¢. Until Cuba and the United States hammer out a postembargo postal agreement, mail between the two countries travels via Canada or Mexico and takes three or four weeks to reach its destination. Evidence exists that officials read mail; stick to postcards with "Having a wonderful time" pleasantries and you'll be fine.

Shipping Packages

DHL Express is the international air courier service with the biggest presence in Cuba. It has desks at some major hotels and offices in Havana, Camagüey, Cienfuegos, Holguín, Pinar del Río, Santiago de Cuba, and Varadero. The company offers package and letter delivery to international points within 24–48 hours, but it will cost you dearly. A less expensive option is Cubanacán Express.
